The Glitter Run is a 5-kilometer (3.1 mile) run/walk that’s fun for people of all ages, sizes and abilities to recognize the diversity in the Los Angeles area and support the Los Angeles LGBT Center and its newest initiative, Mi Centro, a partnership with the Latino Equality Alliance that provides a variety of inclusive bilingual services to the LA area.
AIDS Walk Los Angeles is a 10-kilometer (6.2-mile) fundraising walkathon benefiting AIDS Project LA (APLA) and more than 20 other L.A. County AIDS service organizations. Be a part of this inspirational day filled with energy, excitement, & hope, and see Los Angeles in a whole different light. Funds raised will help provide food, dental care, and housing, as well as prescriptions to people living with HIV/AIDS in the Los Angeles area. In addition, APLA advocates for HIV-related public policy, works on reducing the incidence of HIV/AIDS in our communities, and generally tries to improve the lives of people affected with the disease.
Coming Out Week
In celebration of National Coming Out Week, the Caltech Center for Diversity and our LGBTQ+ Caltech clubs, PRISM and oSTEM, are working to create awareness about lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning, asexual, and pansexual (LGBTQ+) identities. National Coming Out Week is opportunity for LGBTQ+ individuals to celebrate their identity with support from their allies, and to engage the community in opportunities to learn about our alphabet community.
Transgender Day of Remembrance
Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) is an annual observance on November 20th that honors the memory of those whose lives were lost in acts of anti-transgender violence.
Pride Prom is an event is for LGBTQ+ students and allies to express themselves and their identities in a safe and inclusive environment. Students are encourage to dress and express themselves openly to celebrate their identies.
Every year, Caltech celebrates a month of LGBTQ+ Pride in April called Gaypril. The month of Gaypril is an opportunity for LGBTQ+ individuals to enjoy visibility and support from a wide community, and to celebrate the support of allies. During Gaypril, our community promotes awareness about issues surrounding LGBTQQIAP identities with events like an amateur drag show, film screenings, community speaker series, and other events.
